This 2,000 hectare site unsuitable for agriculture and used for grazing has been transformed into a complex of 13 wetlands. We assisted noted conservationist Tim Nevard to develop this significant new habitat for migrating birds. The new wetlands manages the continued supply of irrigation waters while harnessing additional waters and mitigating flooding.
Plantings include extensive revegetation, planting of marshlands and the development of themed vegetation areas such as the Cape York forest and monsoonal forest plantings. So far over 180 species of bird have been recorded at the project, including flocks of up to 500 Brolgas and Sarus Cranes.
