This in many cases overlaps the area of Heritage Management as good planning should result in good management. Again Peter had over 12 years being responsible for the National Trust in New South Wale’s portfolio of properties, ranging from major early 19th century houses such as Old Government House to the earliest sophisticated slab house in New South Wales – Dundullimal at Dubbo.
Peter also chaired the Ross Bridge (Tasmania) Restoration Committee which involved the complex issues of major traffic, tourist needs and the repair of stonework which constitutes Australia’s most important public sculpture on what is probably Australia’s most historic bridge.
The Firm was also responsible for the major study of Cultural Landscapes in Tasmania where Peter and Tim Nevard (then a partner in the Firm) obtained monies to bring Dr. Oliver Rackham, the United Kingdoms leading expert on Cultural Landscapes, a Fellow of Corpus Christie College and the author of the best selling ‘The Illustrated History of the English Countryside’ to Tasmania. With the assistance of the Premier of the day and the Planning Minister a series of workshops were held which culminated in the production of a publication incorporating the major cultural landscape areas of the State as an aid to Government in future planning and conservation measures.
